Our neighborhood is like a big team, and everyone has a special job to do! Sometimes, people far away make big decisions, but it's the people who live right here that make things really happen. That's what "local" means – it's all about what's happening close to home. The Del Rey Neighborhood Council’s Green Committee is focused on local sustainability issues that impact our community.
In order to celebrate Earth Day, the Del Rey Neighborhood Council in partnership with Council District 11 and Councilmember Traci Park are hosting an Earth Day Celebration & Tree Giveaway this Saturday for our neighbors. It's happening right at Marina del Rey Middle School. Help make our neighborhood more green with a new tree! We’ll also have a green resource fair, free mulch and tree
Why is this so important?
It helps our home: When we plant trees in our own yards and parks, it makes our air cleaner and our neighborhood prettier. Trees give us shade on hot days, and they're homes for birds and other animals. This is work that we do, right here, to take care of our Earth.
It brings us together: When people work together on local projects, like planting trees or cleaning up a park, it makes our community stronger. We get to know our neighbors, make new friends, and feel like we're part of something special. It's like everyone on the team is cheering each other on!
It makes things just right for us: People in our community know what we need. They know where we need more trees, where we need a new park, or what kind of events we would like. When we make decisions locally, we can make sure things are done in a way that's best for us.
It helps our local economy: When we support local businesses, like the stores and restaurants in our neighborhood, we help our community. The people who work there are our neighbors, and the money we spend helps them and their families. It's like we're all helping each other out.
So, when you see people working to make your neighborhood better, remember that it's a very important job. Whether it's planting trees, helping at a local school, or volunteering at a community event, local work makes a big difference. It makes our homes nicer, brings us together, and makes our community a better place for everyone!
And guess what? You can be part of this local effort!
