Culver Median Stormwater Capture Project Update

ree

Last July and in response to years of feedback from Del Rey stakeholders about the need to enhance and upgrade the Culver Blvd Median on the LA/Del Rey side, the Del Rey NC in collaboration with Ballona Creek Renaissance (BCR) submitted an application to LA County’s Safe Clean Water Program (SCWP) which utilizes Measure W property tax funds to implement stormwater capture infrastructure projects to capture and clean stormwater while also upgrading surface level features. The proposed project would be similar to the project Culver City completed on its side of the Culver Median in 2022.

The application was for $400,000 in funding for the initial Technical Resource Program (TRP) phase during which technical feasibility studies and extensive community outreach would be conducted. If selected, the project would be studied through the TRP with final report to be completed in 2027. From that point the project could apply for the Infrastructure Project phase during which design, permitting and construction would occur. In addition to underground stormwater capture infrastructure the project can include improved landscaping, recreational equipment, artwork, educational exhibits and other surface-level improvements.

The application is being led by Ravi Sankaran, DRNC President and Deb Gregory, BCR President. On November 4, 2025, Ravi and Deb gave a 20-minute presentation on their application to the Central Santa Monica Watershed Area Steering Committee (WASC), who is currently evaluating all SCWP applications submitted in the current cycle.
