Del Rey NC Saves Summer Camp

With budget cuts eliminating vital summer programs for kids across Los Angeles the Del Rey Neighborhood Council (DRNC) is pleased to announce it will co-sponsor the Mar Vista Gardens Summer Camp and Youth Services Program which allows at least 100 Del Rey youth to participate in meaningful and safe summer programs.Mar Vista Gardens serves a low-income population with key social services. These services are especially needed during summer months when kids and teens are out of school. The DRNC co-sponsorship, approved June 9, 2011, provides badly needed funds for the Gardens to provide positive, character building activities and a summer of great memories.

“We are thrilled to support the Mar Vista Gardens community and step up to ensure summer programs exist for Del Rey youth,” DRNC President Eric DeSobe said.

In addition to the 40 kids who will participate in the 8 weeks of summer programming, Mar Vista Gardens will register approximately 100 additional youth for baseball, girls’ softball, and other summer sports program. The DRNC co-sponsorship allows Mar Vista Gardens to put scarce funds toward this effort and therefore qualify as a One Source site. One Source is a UCLA group that provides teens with crucial summer jobs.
